Ep 52. A Quick Conversation about Networking

The Summer Shorts Series

Hey BRILLIANT Mompreneur!

Networking can be glossed over to leave some of us confused about what it even is. We know it’s important and something we should be doing as business owners, but how to do it? And what will it do for our businesses? How do we even know if we’re doing it right?

Today we’re talking real quick about networking and what it can do for your business!

"Networking can be very useful. Because a word of mouth connection or a word of mouth recommendation, (especially from a leader in an industry, or somebody you know, and trust, like a leader of a community) can be highly converting."

Discussed in this Episode...

What do we mean by networking?

As an entrepreneur, networking needs to be part of your business. If used well, it can change the game for you. But let’s start at the very beginning. The simplest definition of networking is the exchange of information and ideas among people with common professions or special interests. Usually, it’s in an informal setting. It’s basically a fancy term for creating connections.

Yes, networking can be powerful, but you have to first know how you want to use it. How would you like it to impact your business? Are you wanting to find potential clients? Would you like to find people who have connections to your potential clients?
There are so many different ways to use it! It can become overwhelming unless you go in with a plan and know why you’re there.

Some more ways people use networking:
  • To engage with others in their profession
  • Exchange information and ideas
  • Find jobs
  • Look for business opportunities
  • Build a community

But what I really want you to think about is using this in your business, how can you specifically use it to your business? I want you to think specifically about how can you use it efficiently. It’s important for you to take time to think about, am I already doing this? Am I already networking and I just don’t realize it?

How I Personally Use Networking

Networking, for me, is meeting other people in different industries who have a connection to people that might be able to use my services. When I think about introducing myself to the community leader of another Facebook group, I might be hoping that I potentially could have access to her audience. Or maybe that she would introduce me to someone she knows in her audience that could use my services, and vice versa. Networking is not a one-sided thing. It is both of us finding mutual benefits for each other. I’m looking for ways to connect her with somebody I know that needs her services or her products, and I’m hoping that she will connect me with people that she knows that needs my services or products.
