Ep 62. How to Manage Your Time as a Busy Mom Entrepreneur
with Jaimee Campanella
"The brain was not meant to be a storage center, it's actually meant to process information. So no wonder we have like decision fatigue, and we get frozen, because we're holding so much there's not much more space. And when we don't get it out in a very practical way, we feel it!"
Discussed in this Episode...
Where do we start if we're done being tired, overwhelmed, exhausted?
What does balance really mean?
Balance has become really overused and misunderstood! What consistitutes balance is so unique to the individual! You really need to ask yourself, what is the experience that you want to have? Do you want to be working 40 hours a week? What does balance mean for you? The scale does not have to be even on both sides. In fact, through the summer Jaimee feels more balanced when she has more time with her family and less on work. And then that changes when the school year starts! It’s not about a 50/50 split, but rather a subjective balance based on what you want your life to look like!
Jaimee's top three productivity tips!
First: Do a time audit! Where is your time actually going?
Second: Create a schedule! You need a plan in place for your time, otherwise it will absolutely escape you! Just like needed to budget money, you must budget your time in order to get the most from it.
Third: Hold ourselves accountable. At the end of the day, there is no one monitoring our schedule but us. We have to build a good relationship with ourselves and show up for ourselves when we say we’re going to.
What are some ways that we can keep ourselves accountable?
It’s easy enough to create a plan, right? There are so many tools out there like Monday.com, Asana, Honeybook, or Dubsado to help us build an amazing schedule. But the perfect software or planner can’t give us the practical skills of just following through with what we told ourselves we were going to do. You have to start small and show up for what you say you’re going to do
A big part of successful planning is when you do your planning. You can’t strategize mid-work when there are a million things coming at you. That’s not your best planning mind, that’s actually when you need to focus and get stuff done! A successful plan is made when you can take a step back and look at all you need to get done. What do you want to accomplish this week? What are your goals? What is going to help you take three steps toward your next goals?
We all have unexpected things come our way, especially as moms! But when it’s something you have control over, stick to your plan! You may have made a plan to hit the gym three times in the week, but on Wednesday morning you’re not really into the idea. GO! Or maybe you don’t feel like working on the business plan you said you would work on. Do it! Build trust with yourself that when you create a plan, as much as is in your control, you stick to it. You made this plan for a good reason!
If we can’t show up for ourselves, how can other people trust that we’re going to show up for them? How are we demonstrating for our children that we are powerful people who deliver on our word?
