Ep. 66 How to Deal with All the Algorithm Changes

with Lani Jackson

Hey BRILLIANT mamas!

I don’t know about you, but I cringe when I think about social media algorithms. That’s a word that can cause a lot of frustration! Because let’s face it, what worked last year, two years ago, 10 years ago, all the years ago, or even last month sometimes just doesn’t work anymore. So today we’re talking about how can you create a social media content strategy that is effective even when things are constantly changing.

"Guys, we love it when we get attention! Our audience wants our attention. They want the attention of others. So let's play into that! "

Discussed in this Episode...

How's Your Mindset?

I try to approach social media with the mindset that this is a free space that I get to promote my business and have fun. Most of us are not paying for ads, in which case there is no obligation from Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tik, or any of these platforms to make you successful. They all have the best interest of the platform and their users experience in mind. Their motivation is “how do we keep users on the platform”.

So of course the algorithms are going to benefit the platforms and not us! If we accept that and adjust our mindset, then things become less stressful. This is a free opportunity to advertise yourself! Before social media was around it required a lot more effort to get your name out there and build a business. So let’s adjust our mindset and appreciate that social media is a free space that you get to have fun with, come and go from, and choose what to do on. That’s the truth of it.

You can choose how to show up

Another way we need to adjust the way we look at social media, is realizing that we can choose not to do the social media strategy that’s stressing us out! If you don’t want to do Reels, or create a group on Facebook, or use TikTok, you don’t have to do it! It’s okay to know what is too much stress, and just not do it. You can find a different strategy to grow your audience!

Viral does not equal success.

I want you to understand something; viral does not equal success. This is a common misconception, but let’s really look at the results. Of course, it fun to have those vanity numbers, and we love seeing our reach really high, but also I don’t want to have a million views. I know a lot of times the viral content translates to nothing. It doesn’t give any more money. It doesn’t give you any more clients. It doesn’t necessarily even give you good followers! And it often gets a lot of spam comments. I’m not saying going viral is bad! But it does not automatically equal success.

You don't need to keep up with every platform!

This is permission right now to quit something. You don’t have to be everywhere all the time, and doing all the trendy things! You can choose to just focus on one platform, and get really comfortable and confident there to get the results you want! By trying to do it all, I see women stretched so thin they eventually lose all steam and drop off entirely.
I tell people this very candidly; during the pandemic I started my Facebook group, and I cut out every other platform! I barely showed up anywhere else. I was determined to just put all my focus into growing my community because that was the max capacity I could handle. I gave myself permission to let everything else go and stayed focused on what works with my Facebook group. I grew that community and it was profitable for me! Why?
The truth is, I showed up consistently, I engaged with my people, I created content consistently, and it converted. And it will do the same for you. If you have that focus, and that consistent action, with whatever platform you choose  you will see the growth happen.

  • There will always be algorithm changes
  • The people doing well are the people who can pivot
