Ep. 68 Finding Time to "Do It All" During the Holiday Season

with Lani Jackson

Hey BRILLIANT mamas!

Halloween is right around the corner. Christmas decorations are showing up on store shelves; which means Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and anything you celebrate during this season is just about to be in full swing! It’s time to gear up for the intense holiday season that fills these last three months of the year.  For us entrepreneurs, that means even more on our plate than usual. I don’t know about you, but sometimes it’s hard to find time to do it all when things are “normal”! So today we’re having a conversation about finding time to “do it all” during the holiday season.

"No one wants an overloaded mama! And no one wants an overloaded service provider, or coach, or whatever it is that you're doing. You're not going to do your best work or produce the best products when you're overtaxed. So as much as possible, build in margin."

Discussed in this Episode...

You Don't Have to Do It All

The number one thing I’m gonna tell you is don’t do it all. Really, truly, we are in charge of what we do! Of course, there are some things that we are obligated to do, but also there are lots of things that are optional. One of the optional things is what you choose to do in your business. You are the CEO! You are the one in charge! If you already know your family’s schedule is going to extra intense this season, then I want you to decide now that it’s okay to keep things simple in your business right now.

Keep things simple and lean into what you’ve already created. Expand on what you’re already doing! I’m not saying not to launch anything. or not to sell. Definitely take advantage of Black Friday and deals and the fact that people are in a buying mood. But you don’t have to do anything complicated! You can keep the strategy simple, like running a sale on a product that you already have. Bottom line though, is that you don’t have to say yes to everything!

Set your family's schedule first

The second thing I’m gonna tell you to do is to set your family schedule first! Go in and mark your calendar with as many things as you already know are happening. When are all the things happening this fall? Whatever you know about, put it on the schedule! If you know you’re traveling to visit family or having family over you don’t want to be working the night before until midnight.

Build in margin and flexibility

With all those things in the calendar now you can build in some margin time for yourself! I’m a huge fan of the word flexibility! As mama’s, you know that things are going to come up; someone is going to get sick, flights might change, someone will invite us to a party, the school is going to forget to tell us what time the program is. You name it! For all those unexpected events, we’re going to need margin!

Remember, you can change the dates of things that you’ve put on the calendar for your business. I’ve needed to do this in the past, and guess what; no one got made at me. It’s okay to move things around if that’s what’s needed to prevent stress.

You want to plan margin time for Christmas shopping, time to decorate, plan and prepare holiday meals, to clean for gatherings you are hosting. This season can be a wonderful one if we build in the margin that we need!
